About Eugene

Eugene Ulman was born in Russia and grew up in Australia. He studied film and media at the University of New South Wales in Sydney and the University of California, Los Angeles. He has been living, working and travelling all over the African continent since 2001.  HIs work includes filmmaking, writing, photography, producing and translating.  As a filmmaker, he has worked for the BBC, Al Jazeera, SBS and other channels. 

 

His writing has been published in the Sydney Morning Herald, Contemporary Art Tasmania, Tablet Magazine, Sufi Journal and BBC Online.  His photography has been published in a number of of magazines and was exhibited in ArtHarare 2020. He has also worked as a consultant and fixer on a variety of projects. His first long-form documentary film, "Positive Anomaly: Making History Johannesburg" is currently in production.
